UCL Department of Political Science Vacancy - Research Fellow in Public Engagement and Sustainable Development

The Department of Political Science/School of Public Policy at UCL is seeking to fill one position Post-doctoral Research Fellow.  The successful candidate will have  research expertise in the areas of: public/elite opinion, attitude/behavioural change, international development, sustainable development, official development assistance, sustainable development, and/or political engagement.

The Development Engagement Lab is a multi-year (2018-2023), cross-national investigation of the drivers of engagement with development and overseas aid in four donor countries: France, Germany, Great Britain, and the United States. DEL continues the research from the Aid Attitudes Tracker which has generated large N cross sectional and panel surveys, survey experiments and qualitative datasets. The postholder will play an active role in the design, collection, and analysis of DEL data, and writing project and academic publications.

The Development Engagement Lab aims to: 1) identify the drivers of attitude and behavioural change with global development; 2) provide a rigorous research base to inform development organisations' communications, fundraising and advocacy capacity; and 3) collaborating with development organisation project partners to co-design research and use findings to inform policy and practice.

The postholder will work with Professor Jennifer Hudson, Principal Investigator and Director of the Development Engagement Lab, and the research team based at University College London and University of Birmingham to deliver the project goals.

The post is initially funded from 1 August 2022 until 31 October 2023.

Key Requirements
A PhD in Political Science, international development or related subject (candidates nearing completion may be considered) is essential.

A proven ability to undertake high-quality academic research, a research agenda and interest in public/elite opinion, attitude/behavioural change, international development, official development assistance, sustainable development, political engagement and an excellent knowledge of empirical research methods (e.g. survey research design and methods; panel data; dynamic modelling; multi-level and measurement models) are essential.

About the role
The Department of Political Science/School of Public Policy at UCL is seeking to fill a position in International Relations at the Lecturer level (equivalent of a U.S. tenure-track Assistant Professor position).

The salary will be on the UCL Grade 8 scale, £47,414 - £55,805 (inclusive of London Allowance). Plus £10,000 per annum Market Supplement.

The position is open to all sub-fields in international relations. We are seeking applicants from all sub-fields in international relations with teaching and research interests that complement and extend existing strengths in the department.

The post plays a critical role in the strategic research plan of the Department, as well as the expansion of its undergraduate teaching provision as its new BSc in Politics and International Relations expands to its full size.

This is an open-ended appointment which will commence on 1 September 2023.

About the role
The Department of Political Science/School of Public Policy at UCL is seeking to fill a position in Comparative Politics at the Lecturer level (equivalent of a U.S. tenure-track Assistant Professor position).

The salary will be on the UCL Grade 8 scale, £47,414 - £55,805 (inclusive of London Allowance). Plus £10,300 per annum Market Supplement.

We are seeking applicants with research and teaching expertise in authoritarian politics, democratization, and/or democratic backsliding, whose teaching and research interests complement and extend existing strengths in the department.

The post plays a critical role in the strategic research plan of the Department, as well as the expansion of its undergraduate teaching provision as its new BSc in Politics and International Relations expands to its full size.

This is an open-ended appointment which will commence on 1 September 2023.

About you
The successful candidate must have a PhD in political science or related subject (candidates nearing completion may be considered).

Evidence of proven ability or potential for academic research of internationally-recognised calibre, research expertise in authoritarian politics, democratization, and/or democratic backsliding, research expertise that complements and extends on existing strengths in the Department and experience of teaching which is relevant to the Department's modules at undergraduate or postgraduate level is essential.
