Dear colleagues,
For those working on class politics and inequality, please consider submitting articles to join our workshop at the ECPR Joint Sessions, taking place 20-23 May 2025, in Prague.
Peter Egge Langsæther (University of Oslo) and I (University of Basel) are co-organizing a workshop titled: "Inequality and the politics of class in the 21st century". It will assess in what ways social class is still central to contemporary politics and with which other inequalities it intersects. It does so before the background of changing class structures in post-industrial countries, which have altered the composition and potentially also the social and political identities, preferences and voting behaviour of social classes, especially the working class. The workshop bridges research on the supply and demand side of class politics to uncover how party strategies and voter behavior interplay. We invite work on class identities, party competition on class issues and appeals, the representation of the working class, and intersections with race, gender and sexuality. Papers on the concept and measurement of class are also very welcome, using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
You can find more details here: https://ecpr.eu/Events/Event/WorkshopDetails/15663. The deadline for submission is 21 November. We are looking forward to you submissions!
Best wishes
