Lecturer in Global Politics (Grade 8, Full-Time)
The Department of European & International Social & Political Studies (EISPS) at UCL invites applications for a Lectureship in Global Politics with a regional specialisation in Latin America. EISPS is a multidisciplinary department in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, offering selective undergraduate degrees that combine humanities, social sciences, and advanced language training. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team committed to excellence in teaching and research and to strengthening the department’s growing research culture.
Position Description
We seek a scholar with an ambitious research agenda and a proven record of high-quality publications in global politics or a closely related field. Candidates must demonstrate research and teaching expertise in Latin American politics and an interest in multidisciplinary approaches. The role includes teaching across undergraduate programmes, convening modules (including a new research methods module) supervising dissertations, providing pastoral support, and contributing to departmental administration and research development.
Key Responsibilities
– Teach undergraduate modules in global politics and social science research methods
– Convene 2–3 modules in your area of expertise
– Supervise and provide pastoral tutoring for undergraduate students
– Undertake and publish cutting-edge research; participate in grant activity and research networks
– Contribute to departmental administration, research culture, and UCL-wide initiatives
– Engage with partnerships, research groups, workshops, and events across UCL and beyond
Essential Criteria
– PhD in international relations, global politics, international studies, or a closely related field (awarded before start date)
– Proven research excellence with recent publications in high-ranking outlets or a monograph
– Research and teaching experience in Latin American politics
– Experience teaching global politics, foundational IR/politics, and qualitative or quantitative methods
– Excellent communication skills and ability to deliver high-quality teaching and curriculum development
– Ability to supervise dissertations, meet deadlines, and contribute to departmental administration

Start Date: August 2026
Location: UCL Bloomsbury Campus
Contract: Full-time, permanent (Grade 8)
