Call for Papers: Special Issue on “Public Opinion and International Organizations”
Guest editors: Lisa Dellmuth and Jonas Tallberg (Stockholm University)
The Review of International Organizations will publish a special issue on “Public Opinion and International Organizations.” We invite submissions for inclusion in this special issue. Deadline for submissions: October 15, 2024.
Public opinion has become an increasingly important issue for international Organizations (IOs) in the wake of growing politicization and contestation in global governance. The purpose of this special issue is to explore patterns, sources, and consequences of public opinion toward IOs (and global governance more broadly).
- Patterns: What are key patterns of public opinion across geographical spaces, across IOs, across social groups, and over time? What do these patterns reveal about public support and popular legitimacy for IOs and for their policies?
- Sources: What are central sources of public opinion toward IOs at individual, institutional, and societal levels? How do states, non-state actors, and IOs themselves seek to influence public opinion and with what impact?
- Consequences: When, how, and why does public opinion affect IOs? What are the implications of public opinion for IO-related outcomes, such as authority, distribution, responsiveness, and effectiveness?
We encourage theoretical and empirical contributions on public opinion and IOs in any issue area where IOs are present.
Submissions should be made through Editorial Manager (http://www.editorialmanager.com/roio/), indicating that the submission is to the special issue (“SI: Public Opinion and IOs”).
Best regards,
Lisa Dellmuth & Jonas Tallberg
