Doctoral Scholarship in Political Science
(three years, starting October 01, 2023)

The Cologne Graduate School in Management, Economics and Social Sciences (CGS) at the University of Cologne (UoC https://portal.uni-koeln.de/en/uoc-home) offers a three-year doctoral scholarship to outstanding students holding a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Political Science, Economics, Sociology, or Statistics/Methods.

The graduate student will join the Political Economy lab (Prof. Dr. Michael M. Bechtel http://mbechtel.com/) in the Department of Political Science and European Affairs and the Cluster of Excellence “ECONtribute Markets and Public Policy”.

Your Profile
•      A strong interest in improving our scientific understanding of environmental and economic policy problems
•      Analytical skills combined with a thorough understanding of modern political science theories
•      Strong research design and quantitative methods skills
•      Ideally, proficiency in one or several of the following: experiments/causal inference techniques, survey methods, time-series analysis, quantitative text analysis

Your Tasks
•      Pursuing independent and collaborative political science research in one of the above areas
•      Participating in graduate-level courses, summer schools, conferences, and other academic activities within and outside of the department.
•      Successful completion of the graduate program. Coursework starts in October 2023
