Professorship in Digital Humanities with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (open rank)
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Basel invites applications for a professorship (open rank) in Digital Humanities, with a focus on artificial intelligence, starting February 1, 2023 or by appointment.
Your position
We are looking for a scholar with a comprehensive teaching portfolio in Digital Humanities. We expect a research perspective grounded in the humanities, cultural studies, or social sciences, which focuses on artificial intelligence, investigating the preconditions, developments, and consequences/impacts of artificial intelligence from a critical angle, while at the same time developing an original methodological approach.
Depending on the disciplinary background of the successful candidate, the professorship will be located in one of the five departments at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The professorship also provides teaching within the Digital Humanities MA curriculum and is part of the executive board of the Digital Humanities Lab. The professorship further contributes to the interdisciplinary integration of the discipline and to the faculty's Doctoral programs.
Your profile
Candidates should be internationally renowned, with an excellent research portfolio focusing on artificial intelligence in the humanities, cultural studies or social sciences, and an outstanding record of cutting-edge, international publications. A strong capacity to work in a team, a commitment to the discipline, excellent competences in computational sciences, in-depth knowledge of methodological approaches in the humanities and social sciences as well as proven experience in the development of digital methods are necessary requirements for an appointment in this interdisciplinary field. Additionally, a commitment to teaching, supervision of doctoral students, acquisition of external funding as well as active participation in the context of academic self-governance are expected. Excellent proficiency in English is required; proficiency in German or, alternatively, a commitment to learn German within two years of the appointment, is expected.

We assure equal treatment and equal chances of success to candidates, irrespective of personal background.
