Dear colleagues,
We are happy to announce a call for papers for the following workshop,
that will take place in Montréal right before the APSA Annual Meeting:
New Challenges to Democracy Workshop
Montréal, September 12-14, 2022
Organized by the CERIUM-FMSH Chair on Global Governance
We are inviting paper proposals for a three-day workshop on ‘New
Challenges to Democracy’. The workshop will provide a forum for junior
and senior researchers to present and discuss ongoing work that studies
democratic attitudes and support for democracy, democratic decline and
backsliding. We invite contributions that focus on political attitudes
(e.g., affective polarization, satisfaction with democracy) as well as
studies that examine challenges to democracy through a focus on
behavioural measures (e.g., turnout, vote choice, protest,…). We are
open to contributions that are comparative as well as case studies, and
hope to bring together both researchers who study countries in the North
America and Europe with those researching democracy in the Global South.
We will select papers to ensure there is a balance between
(post-)doctoral students and more senior researchers. The workshop will
allow for an in-depth discussion of all the papers, with one hour
allocated to each presentation.
The workshop will take place at the Station de biologie des Laurentides,
which is a 1 hour drive from Montréal, in the days before the 2022 APSA
Annual Meeting (which takes place in Montréal). To allow time for
arrival, the workshop will start in the late afternoon on September 12.
Transportation between Montreal and the workshop venue, on-site
accommodation and meals will be covered by the organizers. In addition,
(post-)doctoral students who need additional funding can apply for a
travel scholarship worth CA$ 1,000.
To submit a proposal, send a title and abstract of maximum 300 words to
Ruth Dassonneville (ruth.dassonneville@umontreal.ca) and Romain Lachat
(romain.lachat@sciencespo.fr) before March 30, 2022. Decisions on
accepted papers will be sent in early April.
