Dear colleagues.
The Standing Group Political Regimes of the Italian Society of Political Science (SISP) organises the one-day workshop "Yet they persist: Democracy in an age of autocratization" at Università degli Studi di Milano (Milan, Italy) on 09 June 2023.
The workshop aims to bring together researchers interested in contemporary democratic regimes and the crises and challenges they face : from pandemics, wars and climate change, to the spread of fake news, polarization, extremism and illiberalism. The morning session will be devoted to the presentation and discussion of new papers. During the afternoon, there will be a round table with Seraphine Maerz (Goethe University Frankfurt), Andrea Pirro (University of Bologna), Anna Kyriazi (University of Milan), Andrea Ceron (University of Milan).
We seek paper proposals dealing with one or more of the following topics: democratic resilience, democratic innovation, democratic performance, satisfaction with democracy, democratic backsliding, autocratization and resistance against it.
Paper proposals (max 300 words) can be submitted via email to Andrea Cassani (andrea.cassani@unimi.it) and Luca Tomini (luca.tomini@ulb.be) until 07 April 2023. Only a limited number of papers will be selected and priority will be given to early-career researchers. Thanks to a grant of the Italian Society of Political Science (SISP), we can contribute to cover travel and accommodation (exact amount per person will depend on the number of participants).
Kind regards,
Andrea
