Dear colleagues,

FORS & University of Lausanne have opened a PhD position in comparative political behavior in Lausanne:
The candidate will have the opportunity to complete a doctoral thesis as part of the scientific project "Democracy and Inequality: Cleavage Transformation and their Consequences for Participation and Policy". This project analyzes how transformations in political cleavages-notably the rise of populism and identity politics-affect equality in contemporary democracies. It distinguishes between input equality (citizen participation) and output equality (the results of public policies), and examines how the evolution of political conflicts can weaken their articulation. The project tests the hypothesis that the shift from socioeconomic to cultural divisions accentuates inequalities in participation, marginalizes redistributive issues in political agendas, and limits egalitarian policies. By drawing on comparative data from various sources (all comparative projects within the MEDem framework, such as CSES, CNES, CCS), the study aims to analyze these dynamics from a transnational and diachronic perspective.
In addition to pursuing a PhD degree, the candidate will also be involved in teaching and in supporting national and international projects at FORS, such as Selects, MEDem, CSES, CNES, CCS.
