Dear all,
We are inviting submissions of panel and paper proposals for our section
"Conspiring Elites and Disgruntled Masses? Revisiting the Populist and
Extremist Challenges to Democracy" at the ECPR General Conference. The
section is endorsed by the ECPR Standing Group on Extremism and
Democracy https://ecpr.eu/StandingGroups/StandingGroupHome.aspx?ID=6.
The section is concerned with the nature and implications of populist,
radical, and extremists challenges on democracies around the globe. We
invite scholars to approach the issue from manifold academic
perspectives. Possible contributions may cover the characteristics of
these actors as well as determinants of their emergence. Moreover, the
section aims to comprise a wide range of understandings of the nature of
these threats to democracy, including but not limited to the effects
these challengers have on mainstream actors, their behaviour on the
streets and in parliaments, how they manage to attract individuals and
sway media outlets, as well as methodological advances that equip
scholars to study the various threats to democracy.
You can find more details here
https://ecpr.eu/Events/Event/SectionDetails/1206. The conference is
planned as an in-person event inInnsbruck from22-26 August 2022. The

ECPR website. Panel proposals should contain between 3 and 5 papers.
