Dear all,
Alice Fubini, Philip Di Salvo, Birgitta Niklasson and I would like to draw your attention to a call for abstracts for a panel at the 2023 ECPR General Conference (Prague, 4-8 September) on Whistleblowing and the Human and Non-Human Intermediaries.
Panel Outline:
Whistleblowing is a key mechanism of organisational accountability and is one of the most effective ways of addressing and reducing misconduct and corruption. Increasingly, research on whistleblowing and leaks has also considered technological developments that have facilitated the process. However few studies have investigated how the relationship between whistleblowers and intermediaries in the process has changed over time in line with technological developments, and how such relationships can depend upon institutional context. This panel invites theoretical and empirical papers that consider:
- Intermediaries of the whistleblowing or leaking process in political institutions, or politicians acting as intermediaries in the civil service.
- Technological advances in whistleblowing processes and their consequences.
- The relational and power dynamics between (for example) politicians, civil society organizations, journalists, and anti-corruption agencies.
- Digital and/or institutional whistleblowing processes over time and contexts.
