Dear colleagues,

The James Madison Charitable Trust is seeking to provide research grants to projects on federalism. The Trust was founded by John Pinder to support and promote studies of federal government whether within or among states, including studies of processes that may lead towards the establishment of such government, and to support or promote education and dissemination of knowledge of these subjects. Grants are usually around £5,000 although a good project may receive more. Grants can be used towards research, e.g. archival visits, survey costs, book workshops, and educational conferences.

If you would like to apply for a grant from the Trust, please send a short outline of your proposal to our chair at David.Grace@cantab.net. If your proposal meets our objectives, we will send you an application form to complete. We can also advise on how to improve your proposal.

Please note that the Trust has committed its funds until April 2025 but welcomes applications for grants for projects from that date. The deadline for receipt of applications is 1st September 2024 and the trustees will meet to review applications in October 2024.

Kind regards,
Melis Kirtilli
Honorary Secretary, James Madison Charitable Trust
