Job Description:
Assistant Professor (full time, 6 years, with tenure-track option), Department of Political Science and Digital Science Center, starting on 1st of March 2022.
Main tasks:
conducting original research on Political Communication with a big data focus (e.g., using social media data, text data, or geolocation data);
conducting original research employing Computational Social Science methods and/or developing methods for Computational Social Science (e.g., machine learning or relational databases);
participating in the research area “Economy, Politics, and Society (EPoS)” and/or other research areas and research centers of the University of Innsbruck;
teaching courses on Political Communication and Computational Social Science in the BA, MA, and PhD programs in Political Science at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences as well as in the Digital Science Center program and in other study programs at the University of Innsbruck;
teaching and supervising theses;
participating in (inter)national professional networks in political science (e.g. ÖGPW, ECPR, EPSA);
contributing to academic administration.
Required Qualifications:
PhD (degree in political science is not a requirement);
continuous research on Political Communication and Computational Social Science using big data, demonstrated by publications in high-standing journals relevant to the field with peer review and listing in Web of Science;
excellent knowledge of methods for Computational Social Science;
relevant academic achievements since the PhD thesis;
several months of professional experience as a post-doc researcher;
experience in applying for and carrying out third-party-funded projects;
experience in post-graduate academic mobility;
didactic competence (demonstrated by student evaluations);
ability to work in teams;
proficiency (C1) in English and German (or willingness to reach C1 level in German within a five-year period);
applications have to include comprehensive research and teaching concepts;
applications have to include the names and contact details of at least two academic referees.

Tenure-Track model:
The vacant post offers a continuous scientific career up to an associate professor. A key component of this tenure track model is the so called "Qualifizierungsvereinbarung" (qualification agreement). This agreement shall be concluded at the latest one year after being employed. Salary:
An initial salary of € 3.946 p.m.* shall be offered for this position. In the following, the conclusion of the qualification agreement will entitle to an increased salary of € 4.599,60 p.m.* and the fulfilment of the agreed qualification objectives will entitle to an increased salary of € 4.987,20 p.m.*. All mentioned salaries are monthly gross salaries, paid 14 times p.a.
