Dear colleagues,
We invite paper proposals for our panel "Eighty Years On: The United Nations and the Politics of Contestation" at the ECPR General Conference 2026 in Krakow (8-11 September)https://ecpr.eu/GeneralConference. The panel is part of the section 21st Century International Organizations: Contestation and Crisishttps://ecpr.eu/Events/Event/SectionDetails/1660.
Our panel explores the United Nations' mounting challenges amid its most significant crisis of effectiveness, legitimacy, and authority in eighty years. Facing contestation from powerful member states, shrinking resources, and politicized decision-making, the UN system is under unprecedented pressure. We invite contributions examining these dynamics, including questions about the recognition of the UN, the promotion of alternative norms within the UN system, or the implications of shifting geopolitics for the organization.
Please send us your paper proposals by email to tokhi@soz.uni-frankfurt.de and martin.binder@forward-college.eu by December 28, 2025. To guarantee a smooth submission process, please include the following information in your proposal: paper title, paper abstract (max. 300 words), 3-8 keywords, and author affiliations with email addresses. Please make sure that you have an active online account with ECPR. You can create one under this linkhttps://ecpr.eu/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=/MyEcpr/MyProfile.
We will notify authors by December 30, 2025.
For questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
