The School of Government, Department of Public Administration and Policy, at the University of Birmingham is seeking an Associate Professor to direct our new MSc AI and Government programme at our Dubai campushttps://www.birmingham.ac.uk/dubai/study/postgraduate/subjects/government-courses/ai-and-government-msc. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and develop a cutting-edge programme that bridges political science and artificial intelligence in one of the world's most dynamic regions.

The successful candidate will take a leadership role in delivering core modules covering the governance and politics of AIhttps://program-and-modules-handbook.bham.ac.uk/webhandbooks/WebHandbooks-control-servlet?Action=getModuleDetailsList&pgSubj=08&pgCrse=40112&searchTerm=002025, including ethical implications, policy frameworks, and both technical and organisational aspects of AI implementation in the public sectorhttps://program-and-modules-handbook.bham.ac.uk/webhandbooks/WebHandbooks-control-servlet?Action=getModuleDetailsList&pgSubj=08&pgCrse=40111&searchTerm=002025. They will supervise dissertation projectshttps://program-and-modules-handbook.bham.ac.uk/webhandbooks/WebHandbooks-control-servlet?Action=getModuleDetailsList&pgSubj=08&pgCrse=40107&searchTerm=002025 that address real-world challenges in AI governance, with particular emphasis on applications relevant to the Gulf region and Global South. The role offers significant opportunities to build relationships with government institutions and other stakeholders in the region.

We welcome applications from candidates on either Education or Research & Education pathways. The ideal candidate will have expertise in both political science and artificial intelligence (including technical aspects), with a strong track record of teaching and leadership in higher education. Experience in or knowledge of the Gulf region would be advantageous.
