We are pleased to invite applications for a full-time PhD position at the KU Leuven Centre for Empirical Jurisprudence (start date: 1 October 2022). The position relates to the COMPASS Project, which applies experimental designs to investigate the effect of culturally-induced cognitive styles on legal decision making in five countries (US, UK, Germany, Belgium and France).
Research at the Centre for Empirical Jurisprudence is interdisciplinary and straddles the field of law & economics, political science, legal AI and empirical legal studies. We welcome applicants with a background in psychology, political science, economics or a neighbouring discipline. We offer:

- Training in quantitative methods, including experimental designs, statistical modelling, machine learning and Natural Language Processing
Candidates should possess:
- An excellent command of English.
- The ability to work in an international, multidisciplinary research environment.
- Familiarity with experimental methods, including vignette experiments. Candidates without prior knowledge of experimental methods are expected to undergo comprehensive training.
- Knowledge of survey research tools (Qualtrics, oTree, zTree, ClassEx), statistical modelling (regression, PCA, matching, difference-in-difference), statistical software packages and programming languages (Python, R, STATA) is an asset but not strictly required at the time of application.
- Knowledge of French or German is an asset but, again, not strictly not required.
