Post-doctoral research position at the Chair of International Relations and Political Economy (Prof. Dr. Stefanie Walter)

The post-doctoral researcher will pursue his or her own research agenda in the field of international relations, ideally with a specialization on international organizations, international negotiations, or international cooperation more generally. The position is connected to Stefanie Walter’s ERC-funded research project on “The Mass Politics of Disintegration” (www.disintegration.chhttps://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.disintegration.ch/__;!!IBzWLUs!SeuXizjvcW7Lr8V8d_X11y6oNuhw4CgAGKEWisbQi4P_vYLcN_c_EmO1nXNMLbWFCfwPHTTdSFWo0EEUqJfzctJQ1rAcuA$), which explores when and how unilateral challenges to international institutions reverberate in other countries. An ability to exploit a large existing corpus of media data on international cooperation using text-as-data methods is an asset. The post-doctoral researcher will produce scholarship with the potential for publication in top outlets; will collaborate with other team members; and will disseminate research results through conference presentations, publications, and other outreach activities. He or she will also contribute to teaching in the fields of international relations (3 hours per week, which translates into a 1-2 teaching load), advising of students and doctoral candidates, and some administrative tasks.

Requirements

·    A PhD (or very close to completion) in political science with a specialization in international relations.

·    Strong interest and ability to produce excellent academic research and the potential to develop an internationally recognized research track record.

·    Strong methodological skills.

·    Willingness and ability to engage in high-quality teaching

·    Ability to work constructively and effectively as part of a research team

·    Strong command of English. Knowledge of German is an asset (teaching can be in English).

The duration of employment is from 1 February 2023 (a later start is possible) until 31 December 2024 (an extension might be possible, but depends on the availability of funding). The salary is approximately 77.000 CHF/year and can be increased with extra teaching. Some funding for research activities (conference travel, additional training, data collection etc.) is available.
