Dear colleagues,
Are you working on democratic commitment, public reactions to democratic erosion, process preferences, citizenship norms or affective polarization? Join us in Prague!
Lisa Janssen (Gent University) and Hannah Werner (University of Zurich) are organizing an ECPR Joint Sessions workshop, entitled: Citizens’ democratic commitment in times of affective polarisation, 20 -25th of May 2025 at Charles University, Prague.
We invite papers that work on the nature of citizens' democratic commitment in contemporary democracies. The workshop aims to foster a deeper understanding of what it means for citizens to be committed democrats, the contexts under which democratic commitments may fall short or can be strengthened, and the importance of these attitudes for democratic stability. We focus in particular on the impact of affective polarisation in shaping and undermining democratic support.
We aim for a balanced workshop in terms of topics, career stages, geographical provenience, and gender. We welcome quantitative, theoretical, qualitative, and mixed-methods research,
Please find more information about the workshop here: https://ecpr.eu/Events/Event/WorkshopDetails/15734
Deadline for abstract submission: 21st of November 2025, see https://ecpr.eu/MyEcpr/Forms/PaperProposalForm.aspx?EventID=274
Please do not hesitate to reach out in case of questions.
Best wishes,
Hannah Werner
