The Chair for Governance in Multi-Level Systems at the University of
Freiburg is looking for a full-time employee (PostDoc, E13 grade, 100%)
as soon as possible and at the latest from October 1st, 2021 onwards.
The position is non-permanent in nature and the initial contract covers
three years. There is the possibility to extent the contract for
another three-years.
In its teaching and research activities, the Chair for Governance in
Multi-Level Systems focuses primarily on regional and international
organizations, including the EU and comparative regionalism. We place
great importance on theory-guided, methodologically sound empirical
work and convey this to our students. We are now looking for a
post-doctoral researcher to strengthen our team.
The tasks include:
• Teaching: Independent development and implementation of courses on
regional and international organizations, including the EU (4 hours per
week, please note teaching has to be conducted in German from the first
term onwards)
• Supervision of BA theses
• Participation in academic self-administration at the department and
the chair (please note that department and university business takes
entirely place in German language)
• Assistance and supervision during examinations taking place at the
Chair
• Independent scientific work for further scientific qualification
(publications, acquisition of third-party funds, possibly also
habilitation)
Qualifications required:
• Dissertation with above-average completion in the field of
international relations or political science
• Proven expertise in at least one of the key areas of the chair:
- International organizations
- Regional organizations (especially EU)
- Comparative research on regionalism
- regime complexity
- international negotiations
- international norm research
- small states in international relations
• Expertise in at least two different methods of data collection and in
qualitative or quantitative methods of data analysis
• Ability to work in a team
• very good knowledge of German and English (C1 level or higher; please
note that teaching needs to be conducted in German from October 2021
onwards)
An (emerging) track record of a vivid scientific publication activity
as well as experiences in teaching, self-administration, and the
acquisition of third-party funding are of advantage.
