Postdoctoral Research Officer

Salary from £37,197 to £44,802 pa

This is a fixed term appointment for 24 months

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research officer, tenable from 1st September 2022 (or within 6 months of that date) for 2 years, based the London School of Economics, Department of Government.

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who has a keen interest in political behaviour, has advanced training in quantitative statistical methods, is enthusiastic about applying new analytical techniques, and has a high level of proficiency in statistical software (e.g. R). Ideally, the applicant also has experience with quantitative text analysis, analysing survey data, designing survey experiments and/or causal inference.

The successful candidate will take part in the research activities of the COVIDEU project and work closely with Professor Sara Hobolt and the rest of the COVIDEU team. The COVIDEU project is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and conducted by Heike Klüver (consortium leader, Humboldt University Berlin), Sara Hobolt (LSE), Theresa Kuhn (University of Amsterdam), Michał Krawczyk (Warsaw University) and Toni Rodon (Universitat Pompeu Fabra). The project examines the effect of the Covid-19 crisis on citizens’ Eurosceptic attitudes, their solidarity with other Europeans and the electoral performance of political parties. The project builds on insights from political behaviour, economics and political communication and relies on a multi-method approach combining survey, observational and geocoded data with natural, survey and field experiments as well as natural language processing technologies.

The successful candidate should have obtained, or be close to completing (by 2 September 2020), a PhD in political science or a closely related discipline (e.g. data science/ psychology/ behavioural economics) and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
