Dear colleagues,
This is a reminder that the PSA Specialist Group on Autocracy and Regime Change (Linkhttps://www.psa.ac.uk/specialist-groups/autocracy-and-regime-change) is inviting you all to submit proposals for the PSA Annual Conference. It will take place from 14 to 16 April 2025 in Birmingham (Linkhttps://www.psa.ac.uk/events/psa-annual-conference). We welcome proposals on all aspects of authoritarian regimes, either with a specific country focus or from a comparative perspective, processes and mechanisms of autocratization as well as democratization. The deadline for submission is 18 October.
We also welcome submissions to specific panels co-sponsored with the Centre for Elections, Democracy, Accountability and Representation (CEDARhttps://www.birmingham.ac.uk/university/colleges/socsci/cedar/index.aspx) at the University of Birmingham on ‘Understanding authoritarian regime change in comparative perspective’.
For these panels, we invite papers that focus on different processes of autocratization and their consequences, including (but not limited to) those addressing the following questions:
• How can we categorize, map, and explain authoritarian regime change?
• To what extent are authoritarian and autocratizing regimes developing new governance systems and practices, and how far do these differ from existing forms of authoritarianism?
• What are the local, national, or transnational factors that shape pathways of autocratization in different parts of the globe?
• What is the relationship, if any, between pathways of autocratization and other important political outcomes, such as respect for human rights?
• What are the consequences of gradual autocratization for different communities and institutions and how can this be remedied?
Submission info for all proposals:
Please log-in to Ex-Ordo via this linkhttps://psa25.exordo.com/ and upload your abstract which you intend for review by our Specialist Group by 18 October.
At the conference, we will not only have dedicated panels, but also a business meeting and an Autocracy and Regime Change social. We hope to see many of you there!
If you work on autocracies or dynamics of regime change, feel free to also become a member of our Specialist Group herehttps://www.psa.ac.uk/specialist-groups/autocracy-and-regime-change to stay up-to-date with our activities! Membership is completely free.
If you have any questions about the conference or the submission process, please let us know at arc.psa.sg@gmail.commailto:arc.psa.sg@gmail.com.
