Dear Colleagues,

Let me call your attention to the approaching deadline for applying for the following positions, which I hope may be of interest to some of you and/or your students or others in your networks:

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) issued a call for open rank searches for 3 professorships at the Munich School of Politics and Public Policy in

  • Political Philosophy/Normative Political Theory
  • Political Economy
  • Governance, Diversity, Algorithms

The Munich School of Politics and Public Policy is a combined Political Science and Public Policy institute at the Technical University of Munich, Germany.  Faculy are customarily appointed at the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology.

We welcome applications from promising candidates at any level. TUM uses a system for tenure and promotion similar to most major research universities in the United States and Canada (with faculty ranks tenure-track sssitant, associate, and full professor) to allow for career advancement within the university, conditional on rigorous external and international expert reviews (see https://www.tum.de/en/about-tum/working-at-tum/faculty-recruiting/). All tenure track appointments (http://www.tum.de/faculty-tenure-track) are eligible for tenure review and promotion to tenure associate professor after (usually) six years (for tenure track assistant professorships (at the German "W2" level), candidates must have PhD in hand by the time of the appointment). TUM especially encourages applications from women scholars.

For further information, see https://portal.mytum.de/jobs/professuren/NewsArticle_20240126_103806

Please beware that the deadline for applications is next Tuesday, 12 March 2024 (Germany time). Applications should be submitted via https://www.recruit.tum.de

Please see "Which documents do I need to submit with my application" at https://www.tum.de/en/about-tum/careers-and-jobs/faculty-recruiting/faqs for a list of what you need to submit for a complete application.  Much of it is standard (CV, research statement, teaching statement and list of courses taught), but note that it is customary at German universities to submit as separate documents a list of publications and a list of scholarships, grants, etc. (esp. extra-mural). For the three papers that you consider your strongest ones (to be submitted along with your application), be sure to submit short summaries – again as a separate document, even if the papers contain abstracts.

Best wishes,
Tim
