Dear all,

Luca Tomini (Université Libre de Bruxelles) and Mahmoud Farag (TU
Darmstadt) are organizing a workshop entitled "Opposition Strategies,
Affective Polarisation and Autocratisation: Origins and Effects
" at the
ECPR Joint Sessions at Charles University, Prague (20 - 23 May 2025).

The workshop calls for quantitative, qualitative or theoretical papers
that examine the following questions:

  1. Which opposition strategies are more likely to succeed in aborting or
    slowing down autocratisation?
  2. To what extent do (certain) opposition strategies employed amid
    autocratisation contribute to polarisation?
  3. Does affective polarisation shape the elite’s choices of opposition
    strategies?
  4. What are the main determinants that shape the choice of opposition
    strategies?
  5. What are the effects of opposition strategies on re-democratisation
    once autocratisation is aborted?

The full description of the workshop is on the ECPR website, where you
can also submit your proposals:
https://ecpr.eu/Events/Event/WorkshopDetails/15678

The deadline for proposals is 21 November 2024.

If you need further information or in the case of any questions, please
email Mahmoud Farag (mahmoud.farag@tu-darmstadt.de). We look forward to
your proposals and to hopefully meeting you in Prague!

Best regards,

Mahmoud
