GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences in Cologne, Department Computational Social Science is searching for a
Doctoral Researcher in Computational Social Science (working time 75%, limited to three years)
The position is part of the project "Political polarization and individualized online information environments: A longitudinal tracking study" that is funded by the funding line Leibniz Collaborative Excellence. The project is a collaboration with the Leibniz-Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut in Hamburg, the University of Bremen and the University of Konstanz.
Tasks:
- Conducting research on digital media and political polarization
- Contributing to the collection and preprocessing of surveys and web tracking data (website visits and content)
- Automated text analysis of political online content
- Statistical analysis of data collected in the project (web tracking, social media, surveys)
- Publications with the principal investigators of the project
Profile:
- Master's degree in political science, communication science, survey methodology, statistics or a related discipline
- Knowledge of R is required; knowledge of Python is a plus
- Experience in automated text analysis
- Knowledge in at least one of the following research areas: political communication, digital media, political sociology
- Excellent English language skills in speaking and writing; knowledge of German is a plus
