Dear all,
We are pleased to invite you to submit abstracts for the section "Managing
Transitions: Political Economy and Welfare State Change in a Turbulent Era" at
the 2025 ECPR General Conference (Thessaloniki, 26–29 August 2025). This

Politics (PEWS) Working Group.
The section features five panels:
- The social investment turn: Winners and losers of the knowledge
economy
- Politics and policies of a just transition: Reconciling welfare and
climate change
- Industrial policy and state subsidies across time and space
- Comparative capitalisms in the green transition
- Welfare states in the digital age: Technology, automation, and
inequalities
The deadline for both full panel proposals and individual paper submissions
is 6 January 2025. More details can be found here

.
We encourage submissions on topics within the broader realm of political
economy and welfare, as there is flexibility in panel organization.
Lastly, the Standing Group will award its Best Paper Prize at the
upcoming ECPR General Conference! This is a fantastic opportunity for
(especially early-career) scholars to showcase their work and gain
recognition in the field of political economy and welfare state research.
The winning paper will be published in Social Policy and
Administration (SP&A),
subject to peer review.
We look forward to your submissions!
Best wishes,
Luca Cigna, Gibrán Cruz-Martínez and Margarita Gelepithis
