At the HafenCity University we are currently looking for a Research Assistant (pursuing a doctorate) - CLICCS (Salary group 13 TV-L) to be part of the research program CLICCS with 25,35 weekly working hours, starting 1st of October 2022. The excellence cluster CLICCS (https://www.cliccs.uni-hamburg.de/) is an ambitious climate research program of the University of Hamburg and partnering research institutions in the Hamburg metropolitan area. HCU is a partner in CLICCS. CLICCS is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the "Exzellenzstrategie des Bundes und der Länder" (excellence strategy of the federal and state governments).

The position is part of the research project "Dynamics of Climate Governance: Norms, Contestation, and Policies" (https://www.cliccs.uni-hamburg.de/research/theme-b/b2.html) (B2) that contributes to the CLICCS program. The project is supervised by Prof. Dr. Martin Wickel, LL.M and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Knieling, M.A. (both HCU), and by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Cathrin Zengerling, LL.M. (University of Freiburg). Be-sides pursuing independent research and further academic qualifications (in particular a doctorate), the duties of research assistants include academic services in the project B2.

You need to have a completed academic degree (Master's Degree or equivalent) in Law, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Political Science that provides comparable knowledge relevant to the described research .

Climate change mitigation is a task in the system of multi-level governance. The position holder is expected to examine the regulatory framework of climate change mitigation, particularly target setting and the instruments available to achieve those targets. The role of municipalities and cities will also be considered. In which sectors (eg. buildings, traffic, LULUCF) do they have particular influence? What instruments are available to them and how do they fit in the overall system of climate change mitigation governance? Comparative case studies (eg. Hamburg, Freiburg) should be included in the project.
Applicants are expected to submit a project outline including first thoughts on the project and possible research questions (max. 3 pages).
