Please forward this e-mail to your Master's students interested in pursuing doctoral (PhD) studies in Political Science

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

The Doctoral Program in Political Science of the Center for Doctoral Studies in Social and Behavioral Sciences (CDSS) https://gess.uni-mannheim.de/doctoral-programs/social-and-behavioral-sciences-cdss.html at the University of Mannheim invites applications for the new intake in September 2021.

We seek applications from highly qualified graduates holding a research-oriented Master’s degree for our full-time, fully funded three-year doctoral program starting in September 2021. Our program is limited to about five students per year.

The intense nature and small class-size of the program offers numerous research opportunities for graduate students. You can conduct your research in a unique interdisciplinary environment within the social sciences (Data Science, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Business Administration).

You will have ample opportunity to collaborate and co-author research papers with faculty who are experts in research fields such as comparative politics, international relations, political economy, political behavior, as well as formal theory and quantitative methods (see our faculty page https://www.sowi.uni-mannheim.de/en/about/professors/political-science/). CDSS doctoral students have published in top scholarly journals, e.g., the American Journal of Political Science, Political Analysis, etc. (take a look at our publication page https://gess.uni-mannheim.de/doctoral-programs/social-and-behavioral-sciences-cdss/publications.html) and have obtained academic positions at leading national and international universities (check out our alumni page https://gess.uni-mannheim.de/doctoral-programs/social-and-behavioral-sciences-cdss/alumni.html).

Discover what we offer

·      A three-year employment contract in the form of stipends (currently €15,000 pa), teaching and research assistantships, also including a tuition waiver.
·      Financial support for conferences, summer schools, and research stays abroad
·      A comprehensive course program with a cutting-edge quantitative methods curriculum, including courses in causal inference, machine learning and programming classes.
·      An intellectually sophisticated and diverse community.
·      A stimulating international learning environment to develop skills as researchers and teachers, both through small seminars and hands-on experience.
