Professor Mark Kayser, as part of the DFG Research Project "Issue Voting over the Business Cycle" invites applications for
2 Doctoral Researcher Positions (m/f/x)
to start in late summer 2024 at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. The doctoral positions will start in September 2024 and remuneration is based on Grade E13 TVL (75%) of the German Public Salary Scale.
Qualification and requirements
We invite applications by highly qualified graduates from the fields of political science or other related social sciences who have a high level of quantitative methods training and substantive interests in economic determinants of political behavior. Candidates must be fluent in English, have strong skills in statistical software (R, Stata and/or other) and hold or expect to hold a master’s degree by the beginning of the project. Individual initiative, responsibility, and the capacity to work within a team are valued. The successful applicants will pursue a PhD as part of the project.
The position includes
- A three-year employment contract with a competitive salary according to salary group E13 TVL including social security and health insurance
- Participation in the Hertie School’s structured PhD program, doctoral workshop in data science, and access to a wide palette of courses, training opportunities, research seminars and work-in-progress workshops
- The Hertie School is a member of CIVICA, The European University of Social Sciences (www.civica.euhttp://www.civica.eu), which offers additional travel, training and research support
- Office space in the heart of Berlin
- Financial support for conferences

- Research proposal (1,500-2,500 words excl. references, bibliography or endnotes)
- Writing sample (e.g., BA or MA thesis)

- Transcripts and certificates of all acquired (or to be acquired) university degrees
- Statement of methods training explaining content of courses and other skills obtained (1 page).
