The Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the Statehttps://www.chicagobooth.edu/research/stigler at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business welcomes applications for our 2026 Affiliate Fellowship in Political Economyhttps://www.chicagobooth.edu/research/stigler/research/affiliate-fellows. The application is open until January 23, 2026. This non-resident, 3-year appointment is for pre-tenure scholars from around the world interested in political economy, regulatory capture, and competitive markets. The Fellowship supports the research of up-and-coming academics in diverse fields, including economics, law, political science, public policy, and other related disciplines.
For the 2026 applicationhttps://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/019a119f871377708cbdd183f83a5af1, we continue to accept applications in all areas connected to political economy, and we particularly encourage research agendas that address the potential for a new popular capitalism to meet the unique challenges of the 21st century, including exploring policies that break economic rents-creating a fairer pre-distribution of economic resources-while at the same time encouraging long-term innovation, productivity growth, human flourishing, and the broader distribution of political power.
Pre-tenure faculty members and outstanding job-market candidates who anticipate a pre-tenure appointment in fall 2026 are encouraged to apply. We believe this program could be particularly valuable to help develop the future of political economy scholarship.
Fellows will benefit from:
- An annual closed conference to provide time to develop and discuss early research ideas, plus create new partnerships with other academics.
- Participation in monthly workshops to present and receive feedback on their research in a closed environment.
- Access to the Stigler Center Working Papershttps://www.chicagobooth.edu/research/stigler/research/working-papers Series, ProMarket.org digital publicationhttps://promarket.org/, and other Stigler Center resources to help disseminate their research;
