Dear Colleagues,

This a reminder for the ongoing Call for Papers by the Authoritarian Political Systems Grouphttps://apsg.work/.

Wehttps://apsg.work/people/ are accepting submissions for our new season of online workshops taking place from 16 September 2025 to 16 December 2025. We aim to select eight early-career scholars to present their ongoing research at one of our biweekly meetings. We will invite two established researchers from the relevant fields to discuss the successful applicants’ work at each meeting.

The APSG online seminar will be held every other week on Tuesdays 5:00-6:00 PM Central European Time (8:00-9:00 AM PST, 11:00-12:00 AM EST). The workshophttps://apsg.work/seminar-rules/ will last one hour. After a brief presentation by the author(s), two discussants will provide comments and suggestions. We then open the floor for further questions and analyses from the audience.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

We welcome presentations by early-career scholars (e.g., Graduate Students, Postdocs, Assistant Professors) in Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory, and related fields who study authoritarian political regimes regardless of their methodological approaches (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mix-methods etc.). Our essential priority in the choice of successful candidates is diversity:

  1. We encourage submissions from traditionally underrepresented groups, including women and minorities.
  2. We strive to provide a comprehensive perspective on autocratic tendencies worldwide and encourage submissions from scholars whose regional areas of study are not adequately represented in the mainstream study of authoritarianism.
  3. We also consider explicitly comparative proposals on democratic backsliding, autocratization, regime survival etc.

Submission Process

Please complete this formhttps://forms.gle/SvZv98ke4QUT7omu9 to submit your application including: title, abstract, field, and scholars you would like to invite to discuss your work. The deadline for submission is 31 May 2025. The successful applicants will be notified by early June 2025.

Contact

We invite interested candidate to consult our seminar rules on our websitehttps://apsg.work/ before applying. If you have any additional inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us at apsgworkshop@gmail.commailto:apsgworkshop@gmail.com.
