The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) is a foundation under public law. With over 80 employees, PRIF is currently the largest German peace and conflict research institute.
For the joint project "Regional Research Center - Transformations of Political Violence" we are looking for the following position as of April 1, 2022
a Postdoc (m/f/d) (100%),
salary group E 13 TV-H, for a period of four years
(fixed-term contract according to WissZVG).
The joint project "Regional Research Center - Transformations of Political Violence" is a cooperation project of PRIF, Goethe University Frankfurt, Justus Liebig University Gießen, Philipps University Marburg and Technical University Darmstadt. It is an interdisciplinary research initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The center is dedicated to the study of political violence and brings together different disciplinary perspectives as well as methodological approaches for this purpose. The interplay of different types and levels of political violence as well as their transformations are systematically investigated in four working groups: 1. forms of political violence, 2. institutions for the prevention and legitimation of political violence, 3. interpretations of political violence, and 4. synergies.

The range of tasks of this position, which is located at PRIF, includes in particular:

·        Collaboration and independent research in working groups 1 and 4 with a focus on the systematic collection and evaluation of existing findings on the changes in forms of political violence as well as on overarching, e.g. conceptual-historical, questions;

·        Participation in publications, scientific activities and transfer events of the collaborative project and PRIF;

·        Maintenance and further development of the Center's as well as PRIF's local, national and international networking;

·        We expect commitment to the further development of the research agenda of the Center and/or PRIF, willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation and to communicate research results to the political and social public, as well as participation in the committees of PRIF self-government.

The applicant should fulfill the following requirements:
·          Outstanding doctorate in an appropriate subject from political science, sociology or another relevant discipline;
·          Research focus in the area of political violence;
·          Expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative social science methods;
·          International profile through experience in research visits and/or fieldwork;
·          Desirably experience in collaborative research projects.

Very good command of English, spoken and written, as well as competent handling of standard office software are prerequisites. Knowledge of German is not a prerequisite, but it is expected that the applicant shows willingness to acquire German language skills within the next one to two years.
