Call for papers - Towards a political science of health and healthcare
ECPR Joint Sessions workshop, Charles University Prague 20-23 May 2025
We are delighted to invite applications for our upcoming workshop, titled Towards a political science of health and healthcare. It will take place within the framework of the ECPR Joint Sessions, a long-standing and excellent programme of workshops based around intense discussion, feedback and collaboration. The 2025 Joint Sessions will be hosted by Charles University, Prague, between 20 and 23 May.
Our workshop will bring together researchers working on the broader topics of health and healthcare within political science. Political science interest in health during the Covid and post-Covid period suggests that the field is ripe for a more explicit rethinking of its boundaries, past contributions and future research priorities. Participants will be asked to reflect on the contribution of political science to health and healthcare topics as well as on insights from health-related research to political science at large.
The core questions that the workshop will focus on are:
As such, we welcome papers on:
In the short term, the workshop aims to develop a special issue in the European Political Science Review, focused on the new research agenda on the politics of health. In the long term, it aims to bring together scholars of political science and others working on the politics of health. To this end, it lays the foundations for a new ECPR Research Network HEALTH-PPG (Health Policy, Politics and Governance), which would establish a permanent platform for a political science of health and healthcare.
Full details of the workshop can be found here: https://ecpr.eu/Events/Event/WorkshopDetails/15653
The deadline to apply is midnight on 21 November 2024.
Though we are happy to answer any questions, applications should be made via the ECPR website - please do not send abstracts directly to the co-directors. Details of the Joint Sessions (including funding opportunities) and how to apply can be found here: https://ecpr.eu/JointSessions
