Call for Applications: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in French Politics and Social Mediahttps://www.nottingham.ac.uk/jobs/currentvacancies/ref/SOC180422
School of Politics and International Relations, University of Nottingham

CLOSING DATE: 13 MAY 2022

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Research Fellow position in political backgrounds and digital campaigning. The role holder will help to coordinate an externally funded collaboration with the Digital Society Project (http://digitalsocietyproject.org), led locally by Dr William Daniel.

The role holder will contribute to producing a database on the backgrounds and online behaviours of French legislative candidates for all candidates running in the 2022 French legislative elections. They will be expected to plan and conduct work using methodologies appropriate to the type of research and will be responsible for writing up their work for publication. The role holder will also assist the PI in providing administrative support and coordination for a team of research assistants on the project.

Projects that the role holder is likely to be involved in include collating background data of legislative candidates and pairing it with social media handles, developing and implementing web-scraping tools to process and compile data, and collaborating on original research related to the project aims and themes. The project will involve working with international co-authors and collaborators on research teams leading parallel campaign studies in other countries.

It is expected that the successful hire will appear as a named co-author on the published dataset and will have the opportunity to work with the PI on future publications and external collaborations in areas of shared interest. The person appointed will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods, and extend their research portfolio.

The post is fixed term for 12 months. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours). The role is available from 1 June 2022.

Candidates  are asked to provide a covering letter explaining how their qualifications align with the person specification. They should also provide a current cv, article-length writing sample, and a letter of reference.
