*** The M.A. Program in the Social Sciences at UChicago (MAPSS) is advertising for two positions: Instructional Professor in Political Science<http://apply.interfolio.com/160257> and Johnson Lecturer in Political Science<http://apply.interfolio.com/160266>. We invite applications for both positions from candidates across the full range of fields within the discipline. Areas of expertise that are of particular interest to MAPSS include China, quantitative methods, and migration. The Instructional Professorship (IP) is a full-time, career track teaching and advising position. The initial three-year appointment will begin in Academic Year 2025-26 and is renewable with opportunity for promotion. Appointment at rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Instructional Professor will be considered based upon the candidate’s experience. The Johnson Lectureship is a full-time teaching and advising position that is limited to a term of four years, beginning September 1, 2025. MAPSS IPs teach 4 courses annually and Johnson Lecturers teach 3 courses annually. This includes one section of our core social theory course “Perspectives in Social Science Analysis.” IPs and Johnson Lecturers also perform substantive roles as preceptors, a position that includes advising students on their independent research projects and serving as first and second readers on student theses. IPs and Johnson Lecturers are strongly supported in their development by the leadership and senior academic staff in MAPSS. They also participate regularly in the activities of our departments. We aim to attract the strongest and most diverse pool of applicants, so we especially encourage applications from groups that are historically under-represented in the academy. Successful applicants must have a PhD in hand by the start of their appointment in September.
