The Department of Political Science at the University of Salzburg solicits applications for a pre-doc/PhD student position in the field of political science methods.
The department is highly research active and ranked among the top 100 political science departments worldwide. A sustained process of internationalization through the recruitment of faculty from top institutions in Europe and North America and a clear focus on excellence in research have become distinctive features.
The key features of the advertised position are as follows:

  • Planned start of employment: 1 March 2024
  • Duration of employment: 4 years
  • Employment level in hours per week: 30
  • Working time: by arrangement
  • Employment requirement: completed MA programme in political science or a related discipline; admission to the relevant doctoral programme at the University of Salzburg.
  • Areas of responsibility: academic support in research (substantive areas: political behaviour, political parties, populism and extremism, as well as climate and environmental politics) and teaching as well as participation in administrative tasks in the field of political science methods; Independent research in the field of political science including writing and publishing a dissertation; Independent teaching of two hours per week per semester from the third year onwards.
  • Desired additional qualifications: Strong academic achievements; good methods skills and willingness to acquire further methods skills; very good knowledge of English; research interest in one of the areas listed above; international study experience.
  • Desired personal characteristics: Interest in working scientifically and interact with students, independence, ability to work in a team, reliability, high level of commitment and ability to work under pressure.
