Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a call for proposals for an upcoming ECPR Joint
Sessions workshop co-organised by Theresa Gessler (Uni Zurich) and myself
on the topic “Domestic Responses to Democratic Backsliding: Citizens, Civil
Society, Parties.” The workshop invites contributions that tackle the
involvement of various domestic actors in contexts of democratic
backsliding, including evaluations of the relative success or failure of
such responses.

The workshop targets a wide range of scholars working in the areas of
Comparative Politics, European Politics and International Relations. We
welcome applications from PhD candidates and early-career researchers as
well as established scholars in the field. To facilitate an exchange
between inside and outside perspectives, we particularly encourage scholars
from Central and Eastern Europe to submit their proposals.

If possible, the workshop will be held in-person in Edinburgh, from 19-22
April 2022 (and otherwise virtually during the same period). The deadline
for submissions is 2 February 2022 via the ECPR website. Further
information can be found here:

Best wishes,

Natasha & Theresa
