The Department of Social and Political Sciences, invites applications for a
*Junior Professorship in Comparative Politics (with W3 Tenure Track) *
starting from 1 October 2022.
This is a W3 tenure track position so conditional upon successful
evaluation, the candidate will be promoted to full professor and chair.
In order to verify whether the individual performance meets the
requirements of a permanent employment, an evaluation process will be
opened not later than five years of service. Tenure track professors at
the HU Berlin are expected to carry out research and teach, as well as
be active on various university committees, in promotion of young
scientists and acquire leadership and management skills. The concrete

The Department of Social Sciences brings together Sociology and
Political Science and is committed to methodologically-grounded research
on changing modern societies, and the transformation of their political
institutions and democratic practices.
We seek an internationally outstanding candidate with a specialization
in comparative politics as demonstrated by excellent and visible
international publications. We expect potential for collaboration in at
least one of our department’s research foci: social and political
inequalities; migration and diversity; democracy and transformation.
The successful applicant has relevant theoretical and methodological
skills in the field of comparative politics as well as pedagogical
skills and is willing to contribute to our BA and MA study programs as
well as to our structured PhD programs, The Berlin Graduate School of
Social Sciences and the DFG Research Training Group DYNAMICS.
The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial
appointments in conjunction with § 102c combined with § 100 of the
‘Berliner Hochschulgesetz’. We are looking for an early-stage-researcher
who acquired her or his PhD degree not more than six years ago
(exceptions due for instance to child care are permissible).
