Citizens and State: Decoding Public Support and Opposition in China and Beyond
This symposium will bring together young scholars studying social dynamics in contemporary China and other countries that are broadly related to citizen-state relationship. We are soliciting papers from young scholars, i.e., advanced PhD students, post-doctoral scholars, and untenured faculty members. Submissions should be based on research topics such as, but not limited to, inequality/poverty, environment, information dynamics, voting/representation, and foreign policy, among others. We will organize 10-12 accepted papers into 3-4 themed panels led by invited discussants who are experts in their fields. This symposium aims to feature one panel that specifically focuses on how US-China relationship either influences or is influenced by the domestic audience in both countries.
This symposium will take the hybrid format to facilitate broad participation. We will also provide reimbursement up to $500 for travel to and accommodations in Kunshan. Applicants should submit a brief abstract (under 250 words) and CV to the following Qualtrics Form (https://duke.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5gzPtFJg8qIv8nI).
Applications must be submitted by May 25th, 2024. Notifications of acceptance will be sent on June 1st. If accepted, completed papers should be sent to the conference organizers by June 20th. Please email any questions to jiahua.yue@dukekunshan.edu.cnmailto:jiahua.yue@dukekunshan.edu.cn.
