Apologies for cross-posting

Dear colleagues,

We are looking for paper proposals for a special issue on “Differentiated policy implementation in the EU” in West European Politics. The special issue seeks to explore patterns, reasons, and consequences of differentiated policy implementation in the European Union (EU). You will find more information about the content and objectives attached to this e-mail.

We welcome theoretically informed and empirically based contributions that fit one or more of the following themes:

  1. Conceptualization and empirical analysis of differentiated EU policy implementation

  2. Empirical varieties of differentiated EU policy implementation

  3. Implications of differentiated implementation for EU problem-solving.

  4. Relationship with Differentiated EU Integration.

In addition, it is important that all special issue participants are able to submit first draft versions of their papers by 15 January, 2022 to ensure timely submission of the special issue.

Potential participants should submit a paper proposal or an elaborate abstract (max. 500 words) to Dr Asya Zhelyazkova (zhelyazkova@essb.eur.nlmailto:zhelyazkova@essb.eur.nl) before 31 October, 2021. The abstract must clearly outline the following of aspects:

  • Relevance
  • Research question
  • Data and methods used
  • Main (expected) findings (if already applicable)
  • Relation to the topic of differentiated implementation and core contributions (see attached the proposal for special issue for more information)

The submitted abstracts will be assessed on a competitive basis following the afore-mentioned criteria.
