I am advertising an open position for a
Doctoral Researcher (m/f/x) (65% FTE, salary group 13 TV-L) to start on
1 October 2023 (or later)
in my Emmy-Noether research group "Polarization through and in
referendums: mapping polarization within and beyond the party system"
funded by the German Research Foundation
for a total period of 4 years (for accounting reasons, a contract of 2
years will be concluded initially, which will be extended by 2 more
years after interim evaluation of the project).
I would be very grateful if you could refer suitable applicants to the
advertisement. The application deadline is 01.05.2023 I am looking for a
person with interest in empirical-quantitative research in political
sociology or comparative politics.
Work responsibilities include:
- Contributing to theoretical conceptualization and empirical analysis
in work package 2 “Micro-foundations of polarization through and in
referendums”
- Collecting, cleaning, merging and analyzing existing survey data
- Contributing to the design and implementation of population surveys
- Participation in the supervision of student assistants
- Publication of research results and their presentation at national and
international meetings and conferences
- Participation in the reporting and administration of the project
I expect the successful applicant (m/f/d) to pursue a PhD as part of the
project.
Applicant's profile:
- A university degree in the field of political or social sciences or in
a comparable discipline
- An interest in research in political sociology and comparative politics
- An interest in the topics of direct democracy or polarization
- Solid knowledge of quantitative methods and a statistical software
(preferably R, alternatively Stata, SPSS or others)
- An interest in trying out new methods and technologies
- Very good knowledge of English, knowledge of German would be an advantage
- A self-reliant way of working and willingness to take responsibility
within a team
