Workshop on “The Political Economy of Polarization and Policy-making” at EUI
Dear colleagues,
We are writing to announce a two-day interdisciplinary workshop organized around the theme of The Political Economy of Polarization and Policymaking. The workshop will take place in-person at the European University Institute, Badia Fiesolana, San Domenico di Fiesole (FI) – Italy on May 15th – 16th, 2023. We are grateful to the Max Weber program at the EUI, through which this workshop has been made possible.
Topics covered will include: populism and electoral politics; collective action and voting; behavioral political economy; and partisanship and public policy. While maintaining a focus on formal modeling and experiments, we aim to encourage participation from a cross-section of political economy researchers and the wider EUI community. For example, empirical political economy papers with a formal modeling component are welcome.
We welcome submissions to the workshop from junior-level researchers (graduate students, post-docs, and early career professors). We are grateful that Professor Stephane Wolton (LSE) and Professor Massimo Morelli (Bocconi) will deliver two keynote presentations as part of the program. The audience will include primarily economists and political scientists, as well as lawyers, historians, and sociologists.
Each invited speaker will have 40 minutes to present followed by 20 minutes of group discussion. Abstracts are acceptable at this stage, with full drafts expected prior to the workshop. Please submit proposals no later than March 1 at the following link: https://forms.gle/eHnmJJSFAQL4EheB7
The program will begin in the late morning of the 15th and conclude before lunch the following day. We are unable to cover travel or accommodation but will include meals and coffee during the course of the conference for invited participants. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on our e-mails listed below.
Best wishes,
Daniel Goldstein
