<>Call for Papers
As part of the European Union Studies Association (EUSA) Eighteenth Biennial Conference: “Beyond Sui Generis? Understanding the EU as a Comparative Polity and Interdisciplinary Subject.”
Pittsburgh, PA USA May 4-6, 2023
We seek paper proposals for our Panel: “Ideas and Institutions”
This panel will consider how values inherent in ‘ideas’ are communicated, mobilized, and constrained by EU governing supranational institutions through time. How have these articulations interacted with other ideas and institutions? What is the role of EU or other supra-national institutions in democratization, material and cultural exchange, rule of law, migration, citizenship, and human rights through and across global, regional, national, and local networks and settings? How does the study of ideas interact with institutional theory and with other perspectives such as liberalism, Europeanization, decolonizing, feminist analysis, critical race theory, and post-structuralism? How can the study of ideas and institutions help to cross disciplinary boundaries?
To apply, please send a title, an abstract of 300-500 words, and a CV to Dr. Annie Niessen aniessen@sas.upenn.edu mailto:aniessen@sas.upenn.edu (Political Scientist) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Smith tsmith@csc.edu mailto:tsmith@csc.edu (Historian) by Monday, October 17, 2022.
